Spinal Manipulation

What is spinal manipulation?

Do you have persistent neck or back pain? Have you ever heard about spinal manipulation?

Spinal manipulation, also referred to as a spinal adjustment, is a treatment approach used to correct a misalignment of bones and soft tissues in person’s body. In such a case, a misalignment of these structures can be the source or possibly a contributing factor to a patient’s pain, loss of function, or restricted movement in regions of the neck, back, hips, and pelvis.

Specific naturopathic, chiropractic, and osteopathic physicians will often perform a particular adjustment or correction to the bones and soft tissues in order to provide relief and restore function when appropriate.

During a spinal manipulation treatment, a force or pressure is applied to specific areas of the spine or affected joints by the hands of trained practitioner or through the use of a specific device. The force ranges from gentle to strong and rapid to slow depending on the patient’s condition. The treatment has been deemed quite safe when performed by a qualified health care provider.

After the treatment has been completed, a patient may experience some mild fatigue or soreness but serious adverse effects are rare. Our doctors may recommend at home follow up such as ice or heat treatment, or prescribe a session with one of our licensed massage therapists.
