Orange Cleanser

Make Your Own Household Cleanser–

Many of us are sensitive, allergic or just generally opposed to using many of the cleansers and chemicals out there that are available for purchase. This is a simple way to remove some of the toxins from your living and work space. Know what you are breathing and exposing your loved ones to as you are cleaning the space around them.

Make your own all-purpose cleanser by soaking orange peels in white vinegar for two weeks. A 16 oz. canning jar with the peels from two large oranges should work nicely.

  • Orange vinegar cleanerBe sure the vinegar covers the peels.
  • The jar needs to have a tight seal when the lid is tightened.
  • It is best to keep the jar in a cool, dark place for the two weeks.

Once you strain out the peels, this cleanser can tackle almost any surface! You then add about an equal part of water to the remaining part of vinegar.  Then put it in a spray bottle or whatever you are using to clean.

You can experiment with just about any citrus that you like!  If the odor of vinegar is too strong, increase the amount of peels for your next batch or add more water to your prepared batch.  If you have cleaned with vinegar before, you know the odor goes away as the vinegar dries.

**Some surfaces have warnings that they should not be cleaned with vinegar, so be sure to test in a non-visible area.**
