Buying Organic: Dirty Dozen from EWG
What are the current dirty dozen identified by EWG? Also the clean 15!
You hear a lot about buying organic, and you also see the prices that can be associated with it. Help narrow down what you should be spending that extra money on, because some organic purchases may not be necessary.
EWG identifies what they call the “dirty dozen” and the “clean 15” each year. This is based on pesticides that you could be ingesting by eating non-organic versions of the dirty dozen. The clean 15 are those fruits and veggies that you are able to purchase from the non-organic section, without fear of exposure to chemicals.
Many of our patients have chemical sensitivities that could be triggered by the pesticides/chemicals commonly used on the foods we purchase. This awareness, and a change in buying habits, can help avoid symptoms.
2018 Dirty Dozen (buy or grow organic when it is an option):
- Sweet Bell Peppers
- and a close #13: Hot Peppers
Ready for the Clean 15?
- Sweet Corn
- Sweet Pea
